    20 mins 4.2 Accreditation

Accreditation is set for 2026, but requires considerable preparation. CSE has to deal with two accrediting bodies: Engineers Australia and the Australian Computer Society. They make site visits, and the visits typically occur together (although not in 2021).

They are interested in: school governance, quality control, as well as syllabus and teaching. They read the portfolio we supply and well as interviewing staff and students to ascertain this.

The Faculty has convened a working group to oversee collection of data. Much of this data collection will not require input from academic staff except for Directors of Studies (or their Deputies).

However, soon they will be asking all academic staff to provide CVs. They will provide CV templates, which will be pre-populated with data from the previous accreditation if you were here for that.

    10 mins 4.3 Academic Roles

The Faculty typically uses different nomenclature than what CSE does for various roles, but one significant difference they have is the distinction between a

    • specialisation lead ... person responsible for academic direction of a stream

    • academic advisor ... person who gives advice and "pastoral" care to students in a stream

In CSE, we have generally combined these in a single "Director of Studies" role. Should we consider a different partitioning of the work? Should an academic advisor work in a stream or in a course or a year level?
