ITEMS FOR DECISION | ||
5 mins | 4.1 Education Committee Updated Terms of Reference Little change from last year, except for the addition of new education-related roles (Director of Advanced CS and Director of Teaching), addition of Head of CSG, and removal of Chair of CMAC (a Committee which has not met for many years) 2024 Terms of Reference |
10 mins | 4.2 WiseTech "Earn-and-Learn" Proposal" WiseTech have a proposal to employ students while they study. Currently in use with UTS. The catch: they want to teach COMP1511 themselves and get us the RPL it, let students into higher level courses sooner, and follow a non-standard study plan (but respecting pre-reqs). |
20 mins | 4.3 New Security Program Proposals
5 mins | 4.4 SENG Co-op First-year Study Plan The study plan drawn up by the Co-op office has SENG Co-op students studying COMP1511 and COMP1521 together in their second term of study. This does not make sense. It happened because we reserved COMP1511 T1 for COMPA1 only. Should we allow SENG Co-op into COMP1511 T1? |
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION | ||
10 mins | 5.1 Use of Bloom.AI in CSE Bloom is an "intelligent" tutoring system, based on an LLM, developed in the Business School and spun-off into a start-up. The system ingests course content and is therefore able to provide more specific answers to student queries than asking questions to a more generic LLM platform. They have been lobbying CSE academics to trial it in their courses. Should we? |
5 mins | 5.2 Faculty Proposal for Assessment Finalisation The Faculty has a proposal for how assessment finalisation should take place at the end of each term. Fortunately, it largely corresponds with what we already do. Do we want to change anything in light of this Faculty Results Procedure |
5 mins | 5.3 Running Lab Exams Currently lab exams are handled primarily by a casual. While this is done very competently, we need a more long-term sustainable process. This was discussed at the previous EdC meeting; should it simply move to an Action Item? |
10 mins | 5.4 Running Non-lab Exams UNSW seems to have difficulties with running invigilated CSE-scale exams. We can do lab-based exams ourselves. Can we do non-lab-based exams? Should we have to? |
10 mins | 5.5 Return of Semesters? It is possible that UNSW might return to a two-semester timetable in 2027. Is this necessarily a good thing? |
