Reports from Committees outside CSE
John Shepherd noted that the Faculty Undergraduate Thesis Working Party had developed a new set of marking guidelines for 4th-year theses. There is some flexibility for what Schools can do, but some changes will be required within CSE to conform. Helen Paik will work with the Student Office to implement the changes for students commencing in 16s1.
New Course Proposal: Cyber Security
Richard Buckland was not able to attend the meeting to present the course proposals. Deferred until early 2016.
New Course: COMP9418 Advanced Topics in Statistical Machine Learning
Edwin Bonilla spoke to the proposal. There was some discussion on how it fitted into CSE's suite of offerings. It was noted that this course obviates the need for the current Nerual Networks course, and this should be removed from the list of CSE offerings. The outcome was general approval to go ahead with the course. It is intended to offer this course first in 16s2, if we have sufficient manpower to mount all of our other courses.
