Agenda formation:
The following items were identified as needing consideration:
- thesis arrangements for next year (there are going to be very large numbers
of thesis students)
- awards for students - possibility of Dean's list or equivalent
- proposal to have an Advanced Science (CS) programme giving direct
entry to the honours course
- advanced programmes/subjects for high UAI students in CS/CE
- proposal to introduce a subject COMP1091 (C) = COMP1011 with C,
intended for Engineering students and good Science students (e.g. maths)
- joint degrees BSc(CS)/BE
- resources for innovative teaching
- reviews for new/pilot subjects (e.g. COMP4011, COMP4012)
- provision of summer subjects
-
Course revision:
The meeting considered the current drafts of the revisions for
CE and SE, and heard a report from John Shepherd on the status
of CS revision.
The following recommendations were made:
- CE: replace ACCT9003 in Y2 with a management subject
- CE: avoid problem with 3 cu too many in Y3:s1 by replacing
the math requirement with {either MATH3590 or MATH3150 or a
new 3 cu Algorithms subject}
- CE: avoid problem with imbalance of cu between s1 and s2 in Y3
by reducing COMP4910 to 3 cu and adding a dummy subject called
Thesis part C in second session.
- SE: accept the revision by Ken and others - there was debate about
whether MATH1091 Discrete Maths for EE should be accepted in first
year along with Maths 1A + Maths 1B, or whether maths should be
approached to offer a combined Maths1AB (at 22.5 cp or 9 cu) and
ask SE students to do full MATH1081.
-
Teaching allocation:
A number of suggestions and corrections were made to the rough
draft circulated at the meeting. A further (closed) meeting of
the Teaching Committee on 99-03-19 will continue to consider the
99s2 allocation.
