Exemptions and advanced standings are a formal way of acknowledging that you already possess a certain level of knowledge in a particular topic.
If there is some course that corresponds to this topic, we treat you as if you had already obtained a pass in that course. If there is no course that corresponds to this topic, then you cannot obtain exemption or advanced standing for it.
Exemption for some course COMPxyz means that you can enrol in other courses that require course COMPxyz as a pre-requisite. It gives you no credit towards your degree.
Advanced standing for some course COMPxyz, gives you both an exemption and credit towards your degree.
You can obtain an exemption in one of the following ways:
For some courses, you may be required to attend an interview with the lecturer-in-charge of the course for which exemption is being sought.
After you have obtained an exemption for a course, you may additionally be granted advanced standing for that course in the following circumstances:
