Hello all

We are in the process of provisioning new servers at CSE, and have made available an experimental login server named glass. As this is new hardware, and a new kernel, we would like your help in testing its operation.

Its specification is :

Dual 6 core (with hyperthreading) Intel Xeon CPU X5660 @ 2.80GHz
64 GB RAM
Linux kernel 2.6.38-2-amd64 (with 32 bit userspace)

You should be able to login and use this server as you would use williams, weill or wagner. Try to avoid long running processes if possible, as the server may be restarted from time to time.

Please provide any feedback (both about things that do and don't work) to ss@cse.unsw.edu.au

Thanks

Marking with classrun -mark worked.

Running my document preparation scripts for student assignment submissions (pdflatex) didn't work.
Code:
cs4141@glass:~/tmp pdflatex  -interaction=nonstopmode "\input" homework8.tex
warning: kpathsea: configuration file texmf.cnf not found in these directories: /usr/share/texmf/web2c:/usr/share/texmf-texlive/web2c:/usr/local/share/texmf/web2c.
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.10 (TeX Live 2009/Debian)

kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt
warning: kpathsea: configuration file texmf.cnf not found in these directories: /usr/share/texmf/web2c:/usr/share/texmf-texlive/web2c:/usr/local/share/texmf/web2c.
/usr/bin/mktexfmt: line 362: /texconfig/tcfmgr: No such file or directory
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.
I can't find the format file `pdflatex.fmt'!
cs4141@glass:~/tmp

Subforum deletion with
Code:

works.

TeX on Glass should be working now. There are some fontmap building programs that break silently when we upgrade servers. I've fixed that problem for now.

We will be decommissioning this server at 4:00pm on 14 June.

Thanks for helping us test it.
