The self store server (feldman) is currently showing a CPU error and will not boot.

We will investigate more fully tomorrow and post an update.

Feldman's main board has decided to stop working altogether, but the disks seem to be fine. We are running up a replacement server now, and will migrate the data to it when it is ready.

We would hope to be back in action by Monday, but most likely well before that.

Coincidentally, we held a meeting on Wednesday to plan Feldman's replacement Sad

Progress Report :

Good news : All data looks fine from feldman, and disks have been installed in an old SCSI disk array (U160 disks are so last century) and connected to a suitable old server Smile

Bad news : The server driving the disk array only has a 100MB NIC Sad

We decided that as we have a working combination and mounted file systems that we will just have to put up with the slower speed

Copying has now started to the new feldman, but it will take a while. 782G of data has to be copied at only ~11MB / sec. You do the math. It should still be ready by Monday though.

Sorry for the downtime.

Feldman is dead - long live Feldman.

A brand new feldman is now ready to receive your backups.

Please don't be tempted to use its many cores and ample memory for anything other than backing up. We will be using feldman's excess capacity to run other virtualised services in the future.

See http://taggi.cse.unsw.edu.au/FAQ/Self_admin_backups/#Guidelines for general information on the use of feldman/selfstore

If you have any problems, please email ss@cse.unsw.edu.au
