Brief History of C
- C was originally designed for and implemented on UNIX
- B (author: Ken Thompson, 1970) was the predecessor to C, but there was no A
- Dennis Ritchie was the author of C (around 1971)
- American National Standards Institute (ANSI) C standard published in 1988
- this greatly improved source code portability
- Current standard: C11 (published in 2011)
