The theory says that the surface internal reflection is inverted in phase,
but with a rippling surface, that may be difficult to prove. The main effect
I would guess would be the 360 degree solid angle of the reverberation
unless it is damped somehow. Whichever direction a sound is emitted, it will
come back. A curtain of air bubbles may have an effect on the reverb and
could be worth trying if air is available but of course that would have its
own noise profile.
When you've cracked all this, try stereo recording. Not sure how, but I
would try a Jecklin disc. That might single out the sources of calls in all
the hubbub.

PS. Do you have a handle other than "fxblaignan"? That one is difficult to
pronounce. :-)
