Chris,
A long gunmic does a different job from a parabola, and it has a flat
axial response, but like everything. it gets less directional with
lower frequencies. They are more sensitive to wind and handling noise
than short gunmics, but I still swear by them for good "fetch" and a
clean sound.
I would recommend, however, looking for an MKH 816/815 on eBay. I've
got three oldies and they are still going well and have a high output
level and low excess noise. You may even find one with a blimp as I
did. I use two at 15 degrees for long distance stereo with excellent
side rejection, but that is an unwieldy rig. T powered MKH's go for
less, and you can buy a T to P adaptor.
