By good engineering standards, yes, but it's amazing what you can get away with
sometimes. I run PIP mics on 60' extensions frequently with no problem except
for my mobile phone. I even recorded a community symphony in the middle of the
city with PIP mics on long cables--I figured I'd be zapped by taxi radios, but
there was no problem at all.

That happened to me, too. Had to wrap them in a plastic bag. I recommend not
grounding connector shells of portable cordage.
