> I have strayed away from the smooth, flat, and perfectly circular charac=
teristics of the Jecklin design. There is some crazy idea in my head that =
if the baffle must be reflective to some degree, and if those reflections c=
an cause phase issues, then the baffle should at least be shaped to scatter=
those reflections as much as possible. I don't really know what differen=
ce if any that makes, but I do it anyway.
I've noticed that my by-the-book Jecklin disc has a distinct coloration of =
the random ambience. I, too, suspect the equal radius from the mic capsules=
to the disk edge. I think your idea of varying the shape is good.
Recording four channels on a Sound Devices 744T, I have to match the preamp=
gains of the rear mics to the front Jecklin array by ear (744 has two buil=
t-in preamps, rear channels driven by an MP-2). I hear the Jecklin colorati=
on when I switch my phones from fronts to rears, and it makes level matchin=
g difficult.
