I believe all the DPA microphones are electret-polarized. My 4006 TLs
certainly are. That sort of throws a monkey wrench in the "premium"
vs. "mid-line" argument <smile>. I think DPA used to put their mics
into a cup of coffee or something and then pull it out and demo it.
I'm not trying it on mine <smile>.
I had an AKG C451/CK1 go noisy on Christmas eve -- it was one of four
choir mics and I only recorded a stereo mix and the choir was panned
imperceptibly off-centre and I now can't make any of them repeat the
noise, of course. They are all working fine here!
