Play with the ripple tank simulator:-

http://www.falstad.com/ripple/

Select Setup: Parabolic Mirror 1, increase the resolution to max if you have a 
fast machine.
then move the sound source around and observe what happens.

Then  choose:-
Setup Circle: and chance the mouse "edit waves" to "edit walls", remove half of 
the 
circle. (This becomes your dish) 

And move the source around, or move it to the top. Adjust the source 
frequency...


What did you observe?

Playing with the simulator should keep you focused .-)
