I've got a drum kit tripod (from conga/bongos stand)
that grips a 1 inch diameter pole. I think the stand was
in the $70-100 range.
I also have a couple of telescoping painter's poles.
One is 4-7 feet and the other is 6-11 feet long.
They have a corse thread that screws into the handle
of a paint roller. I used a piece of throw-away paint
gear to make an adaptor for mic stand threads.
The drum tripod grips these nicely. Not pro-grade
boom poles, but the price was right! I've used them
as a boom pole once for a film shoot. Mostly I use
them as tripod stands.
