Subject: [canberrabirds] Bird Eating Snake
The photo below was taken at Geike Gorge in the Kimberley, WA. The snake in the process of raiding a Fairy Martin’s nest was described to us by our local guide as a “Banded Cat-snake”. I have Wilson and Swan’s “Complete Guide To Reptiles of Australia” but can find no mention of such a snake. From my research the snake is likely a Colubrid, the only member of which listed for Australia, is the Brown Tree Snake 0r “Night Tiger”. The remarkable thing about the beast is that it can apparently negotiate rock overhangs to gain access to martin’s nests. Does anyone have any insight as to what it is?
