The two photos below were taken in the same area near
Glendambo (on the Stuart Highway
west of Woomera), SA. Bird A is clearly of a
yellow vented race (ssp. haematogaster?), while Bird B clearly has red on the
vent area, possibly ssp. haematorrhous. There appears to be three
possible explanations:
- Both races (ssp. haematogaster and
ssp. haematorrhous) were present in this area.
- Bird B is mismarked.
- Hybridisation has occurred.
Can anyone out there with greater knowledge than I, help me
out. Of course there may also be some other explanation that I have not
thought of.
