Gooday all,
For the last week we have observed flocks of 20-40 Rainbow Bee-eaters flying
South. Also joining in are small flocks of Pied Imperial Pigeons. The strong SE
breeze that was blowing up until a week ago has eased off and no doubt makes
conditions more favourable for the birds long journey.
Especially like seeing the Rainbow Bee-eaters flying over the open sea. They
announce their presence with a soft “brit, brit“call and then groups are
observed flying close to the water surface in a buoyant flight.
The call of the Rainbow Bee-eaters can also be heard at night. PIPs seem to be
quiet with no calls heard during the observations.
