I have returned from a campout at Brooyar State Forest near Gympie, a site
which may be deserving of more attention from birders. Here in the nice mix
of dry rainforest and open forest were Glossy Black Cockatoo, Painted
Button-Quail, White-throated Nightjar, Little Bronze Cuckooo, Fairy
Gerygone, Paradise Riflebird and Dusky Honeyeater. Good frogs included
Mixophyes iteratus and Limnodynastes tarraereginae, and there was a
surprisingly large number of Boebucks in the vine scrub, along with
Fawn-footed Melomys. It is only a short distance from Brooyar to Glastonbury
where, some years ago, I saw the only Red Goshawk I have seen in southeast
Queensland.
