Some interesting lists coming out, although a few are clearly birders'
lists - eg not sure Tourism Australia or the relevant park and rescue
authorities would be up for 100s of visitors scrambling over the Kimberley
looking for Black Grasswren (just read the chapter in The Big Twitch by Sean
Dooley to get an idea of what he put up with).
Surely the birds have the be uniquely Australian, appealing and (vaguely)
accessible without risking killing off the tourists? My 10 looks like:
Wedge Tailed Eagle
Brolga
Wompoo Pigeon
Any one of the Black Cockatoos
Major Mitchells Cockatoo
Superb Lyrebird
Splendid Fairy Wren
Australian Magpie (just for that song)
Satin Bowerbird
Gouldian Finch
Cheers
