Hi all,
I surveyed the Cheetham Wetlands today for this weekend's Orange-bellied
Parrot count. No OBPs sadly, but I was more than compensated by a flock of
9 Blue-winged Parrots at the RAAF Lake, and a Lewin's Rail inside Cheetham
itself. The area the rail was in is permit only. In all I had 53 species
at the wetland, and 27 at RAAF Lake.
I also saw good numbers of waders, including a few Curlew Sandpipers coming
out of colour. A Red-capped Plover was sitting on eggs (I presume) - it did
a broken wing impression as I drove past it, and ran back to sit again as
soon as I was past. I was surprised to see a Nankeen Night-Heron fly past
at one point and land in a Boxthorn bush, and a Buff-banded Rail nearby the
Lewin's Rail made for a nice comparison.
Regards,
Chris
