every bird on their life lists.  Give it to Birds Aust ( strictly for
conservation, not their general revenue).

"So people with a 500 bird life list put in $25 - cheaper and cleaner
than they'd spend on a twitchathon.

"Crikey, what have I said !!    I'd be up for $36.55.  Our top twitcher
would contribute $39.55"

Why not do this anyway and leave the twitcherthon to raise its funds. I've 
only entered one of these events but raised most of the funds from non 
birders. One birder came up with a sliding scale to encourage a higher 
count. The personalised sponsorships suggested by Margaret have much merit.
