Visited there briefly last Wednesday. Sighted three Wood Sandpipers in the
southwest corner of the ephemeral wetlands, where open water first became
visible when we walked in from the Petersham Rd carpark.
Followed the trail north to where an observation mound overlooks some of the
permanent wetland on the left. There was an old wire fence running north/south
at this point and there were three Baillons Crakes perched on the bottom strand
and feeding when we arrived around noon. They were quite unconcerned at our
presence and were still there when we left some 20 minutes later, unaware of
how cryptic they were supposed to be.
Huge numbers of waders visible from the Hooey Rd lokout area, but too far away
for me to identify them.
