Here's a few 'vernacular synonyms': some are charming, but some just confuse..
buln-buln - ringneck
black magpie - w.w. chough or pied currawong or black currawong
squeaker - southern whiteface

blood-tit or chocolate bird = speckeled warbler (in reference to colour of eggs)
dragoon bird or painted thrush = noisy pitta
lowan = malleefowl
warbling grass-parakeet = budgerygar
many-coloured parrot = mulga parrot
ashy-fronted or lesser large-headed robin = pale yellow robin
tailor-bird = golden-headed cisticola

alarm-bird = masked lapwing
bushman's clock = kookaburra
cobbler's awl = red-necked avocet
green-leek = superb parrot
dry-weather bird = straw-necked ibis
storm bird = pallid cuckoo or common koel or channel-billed cuckoo
flying coachman = regent honeyeater
go-aways = white-browed babbler
jenny wren = white-fronted chat
wee juggler = major mitchel cockatoo
