Syd Curtis mentions the "magic" singing of Pied Butcherbirds (Cracticus
nigrogularis).
This is certainly one of the pleasures in birding in northern Victoria,
where the species is on the southern limit of its Australian distribution.
For those who haven't experienced it the flute-like song is one of the joys
of the bush. It instantly takes me to the redgum country near Barmah
Forest and Echuca.
David Stewart has a superb recording of this and other Australian bushbirds
on his "A morning in the Australian Bush" CD.
Strongly recommended for anyone interested in Australian birds.
