Another potential New Bird for Australia

While on the last Wollongong Boat Trip the visiting Queenslanders 
mentioned that there was a Variable Oystercatcher located at  
Amity Point, North Stradboke Island, Near Brisbane, QLD.  If accepted 
by the RAOU RAC this will be a new bird for Australia. 
 
The only problem is that this could perhaps be a hybrid Sooty / Pied 
Oystercatcher does anyone know of any records of such hybrids? 
and please could somebody go and check it out? Apparently it has been  
present since March.  It should be possible to work out the identity  
with sufficient notes / photographs! 
 
Interestingly it was also mentioned that it has a ring. Who could have 
ringed this bird?
