Key Details:

• Friday 6^th May
• Questions open at 1pm AEST
• Submissions close at 5pm AEST
• Submit answers via Moodle
• Can submit answers multiple times
• Can submit answers any time
• Do NOT leave submission until the last minute
• UNSW will not accept any (medical) special consideration claims from people who already attempted the exam.

• Amount of work in exam ~3 hours worth
• 6 prac questions   (SQL, PLpgSQL, Python/Psycopg2)
• 4 written questions   (e.g. tute questions)
• Best done on home computer; can be done via ssh vxdb
• Exam paper presented as collection of Web pages
• We give you ...
  • a collection of answer template files
  • a database dump, for the practical questions
  • a check script
• Exam paper, database and templates can all be downloaded

❖ Environment

What you need, to do the exam

• a web browser
• PostgreSQL (v13), Python 3.9, Psycopg2
• enough space to create a small database

Where might you find such an environment?

• on the vxdb server
• on your home machine

The vxdb server

• as long as you haven't filled you quota
• which can easily be fixed by re-installing your PG server

Always setup your home machine as a backup...

• need to set up and check environment NOW

We will not accept extensions like

• I cannot connect to the server/database...
• There is a network/power outage in my house...
• etc. etc. etc.

In the exam ...

• read the Instructions
• set up your working directory
  • unzip exam-work.zip   ...
  • q1/ .. q6/ prac question directories
  • q7.txt .. q10.txt written question templates
  • XX.dump .. database dump
  • check .. testing script
• create and populate the database
• answer the questions
• submit each answer as you complete it

❖ Supplementary Exams

Supplementary Exams are only available to people who

• are absent from the Final Exam with good reason
  (good = documented, serious, clearly affects ability to do exam)
• have performed well during the rest of the semester

If you are awarded a Supp Exam ...

• you must make yourself available for it (end May or mid June)
• non-attendance at the Supp ⇒ mark of 0 for the exam
