CSE has increased the current IP Quota for all students to three times the previous limit.  Although we have been pressing for the removal of IP quota now that uniwide is free, we hope that this increase will alleviate any quota issues you might be having at the end of session.

Standard Program

the elective does not play a specific role in the Software Engineering program it is your chance  to pursue a course in an area in which you are interested or which you would like to develop. They can be used for ”one off” courses, or for prerequisites needed for courses to be done later in the program.

Combined program

In the combined programs the free electives are exploited to pursue courses in the ” other ” program. In this case the free electives should be used wisely to ensure a smooth progress through both programs. For more information on combined programs see programs.

Matthew Conolly and Nik Youdale have the answer … they’ve built
a web app that assists students to plan timetables … something
not currently provided by UNSW …

It contains data for *all* UNSW courses, not just CSE, so tell

Stick your index.html into your public_html directory! Every user account gets one by default, and it is in the root folder of your cse account. If you want to share a file with friends on CSE, just put the files inside public_html, and make sure to update their permissions with chmod.

chmod 0755 filename

Don’t put anything you don’t want others to see in your public_html though…

You’ll first have to change your identity with UNSW IT services, at the following URL:

https://idm.unsw.edu.au/idm/user/login.jsp

Add an alias for your emails with the ‘Update Alias’ button if you want to replace z#######@student.unsw.edu.au with something like firstname.lastname@student.unsw.edu.au. Then, click on the ‘Update Delivery’ button to set the email service you want to forward your email to.

If you need a guide on how to set your email client to read your CSE mail (Thunderbird, OS X Mail, iPhone, etc), you’ll find one here at the CSE faq.

You can then view more details about any user on the network with

pp cse-username
If you run that command without specifying a username, you’ll get the same details for your own account - a quick way to check your quotas!
