Research: Overview

My overall research interest is in the efficient and effective use of large repositories of heterogeneous data. My major current project involves the development of a system to (semi)automatically harvest and maintain research data (researchers, topics, papers, projects, talks, etc.). Another current project is MAPPS, where we're developing a system to manage the entire lifecycle of academic proposals. An important element of MAPPS is the modelling and use of academic rules.

Other projects involve techniques for dealing with structured and unstructured data (e.g. database systems implementation, multimedia retrieval, web search, semantic web, etc.). I'm also keen to promote the effective use of information technology (particularly web technology) in CS education (e.g. WebCMS and online role-play), and also to improve the overall effectivness of CS education.
